Soon after the incident took place, the locals gathered near the spot and claimed the killed men were “innocent”. The crowd shouted slogans.

In the video viral on the internet, wailing women can also be seen saying that “they witnessed a group of policemen firing on them”.

One of the protesting women in the video said Kashmiris have no idea about the events unfolding around them. “We are helpless people,” she lamented.

Another woman said, “Have we raised our children to get killed in such encounters, how long do we [Kashmirs] have to face this?”

However, police on its official Twitter handle said that three “militants” were killed in a shoot-out in Srinagar.
